Dr. Tania Mitchell, the service-learning director for the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity at Stanford University, will visit Pfeiffer University from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Stokes Dining Hall Conference Room on the Misenheimer campus.

Mitchell will lead a variety of educational and informational presentations about service-learning and community service work. The free, interactive workshops and discussions are open to the public, but reservations are required.

At Stanford, Mitchell helps faculty members develop service-learning courses and works with students to open opportunities for community and public service that link to their academic goals. She has more than 10 years experience in the service-learning field.

The spring semester starts today with students already enrolling in classes. But several courses, which are meaningful to both the community and UNM, hardly have any takers. Such courses may be scrapped for want of sufficient numbers of students.
