| Our proposal aims to solve the problems of the inhabitants of the settlement of Shadipur Depot. About 30 years ago, a community of Indian conjurers, puppet masters, jugglers and acrobats settled here.Nowadays this place is home to 3,400 family units, including 700 families which are made up of artists: sword swallowers, singers, drummers, dancers and bear trainers who gathered here from over India in the hope of a better life. With the expansion of other means of communication like the 24 hour cable television and cinema these traditional artists ended up living on the fringes of society under extreme conditions of poverty and unsanitary surroundings. We also aim to revive these arts which define India’s rich culture and heritage. | |||

| The projects aims to solve 2 societal problems:- 1.) The lack of light in the dark and dingy slum areas. The households in these slum areas are pretty congested due to which the sun light does not peep in through out the day. Open entrances hampers their privacy and in the absence of light, they end up straining their eyes in whatever work they do. The cost of lightening up their houses with the help of electric bulbs is heavy on their pockets and takes up a major proportion of their income. Our project also aims at sustainable use of resources. 2.)The lack of access that the Rickshaw-wallas have to clean drinking water. They have to travel long distances in the scorching heat to look for water sources. The lack of water can lead to dehydration and impure water can cause water borne diseases. This deprives them off the means of earning a livelihood. | |||

| Our project addresses the following problems, some immediately and some in the long term, eventually: ● Farmer’s issues and lack of awareness ● Middlemen Intervention ● Unemployment (even amongst women) ● Food Inflation ● Rural development ● Health issues (by organic produce) ● Hoarding ● Agricultural sector problems in India ● Environmental Problems In India, farmers sell their produce to a middleman/trader who pays them a very small price and exploits them. He actually sells the output in the market and earns more than 50% of the profit. In India, 80% of the commodities we use have inputs from the Agro sector. This happens because farmers are meek and unaware of the market. Also, farmers don’t have access to the markets. So, if they have a strong support and enterprising ideas are explained, they will benefit a lot in an agrarian country like India. The area (Vidarbha region in Maharashtra) where we would be starting... | |||
