Elizabeth Kovalak of the University of Dayton is the April CASE ServiceBook Monthly award winner. She received $1000 for her project to design and construct a safe drinking water supply system for a rural village in Cameroon, West Africa.
According to UNICEF, only 44% of people in rural areas of Cameroon, such as Barombi Village, have access to safe drinking water. The Barombi villagers currently retrieve their water from either a nearby stream or lake, both of which are contaminated. The goal of this project is to design a water supply system that will provide the people of the village with clean, potable water for drinking, cooking, bathing, etc. |
