St. Agnes College, India, shares the theory and practice of watershed management to improve village life.
St. Agnes College
Students and staff designed and implemented a Watershed Development and Management program at a nearby adopted village. Further, the students multiplied their influence when they taught community volunteers and other students to do carry out similar projects. Students and community volunteers conducted surveys, dug trenches, built bunds, set-up water percolation plugs and planted 10,000 saplings. The program resulted in better agriculture yields plus a better community organization for the village. The students learned the values of service and the dignity of labor – and received credits toward a Certificate of Honor at the end of the course.
